Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) Grant

Funds short, focused research visits to a host institution abroad to advance the Action's MoU through hands-on collaboration, training and method transfer.

Are you a young researcher looking to broaden your horizons and expand your scientific expertise? The Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) grant invites you to take part in an exciting opportunity to collaborate with international teams by visiting host organizations in various countries. This grant is designed specifically for young scientists who wish to carry out targeted projects within a limited timeframe. By applying for the STSM grant, you will have the chance to visit a participating COST country or an approved Near Neighbour Country (NNC) or International Partner Country (IPC). With financial support of up to EUR 4,000, you can cover essential travel, accommodation, and subsistence expenses, allowing you to concentrate fully on your research project without financial concerns. The benefits of the STSM grant extend both ways. As an STSM Grantee, you will gain access to new knowledge, specialized equipment, and techniques that may not be available at your home institution. Simultaneously, the STSM Host will enjoy the advantage of welcoming a dynamic international partner into their organisation, fostering collaborations that can last long after your visit. Priority is given to young researchers and those from Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC), ensuring that this program not only supports your individual growth but also promotes diversity and inclusion within the scientific community.

  • Eligible applicants: Individuals who meet COST financial support eligibility and are affiliated with a legal entity.
  • Host requirement: The host institution must be located in a country other than the applicant's country of affiliation.

Selection criteria and assessment

The Grant Awarding Committee may prioritise proposals that strengthen ITC participation, involve Young Researchers and Innovators, or transfer methods and capacity.
